The Development of Anti-Poverty Programs in Developing Countries

The 4th Mubyarto Public Policy Forum (MPPF) was held at the Faculty of Economics and Business, Universitas Gadjah Mada (FEB UGM) on 21 August 2019. The MPPF speaker was Professor Benjamin Olken (Department of Economics, Massachusetts Institute of Technology/MIT and the Abdul Latif Jameel Poverty Action Lab /J-PAL Southeast Asia). Professor Olken presented a paper entitled Designing Anti-Poverty Programs in Emerging Economies in the 21st Century: Lessons from Indonesia for the World.

Dr. Bambang Widianto (Office of the Vice President The Republic of Indonesia/The National Team for the Acceleration of Poverty Reduction) provided opening and closing remarks. Firman Witoelar Kartaadipoetra (ANU Indonesia Project), Elan Satriawan (FEB UGM and TNP2K) and Mulyadi Sumarto (Faculty of Social and Political Science UGM) were the discussants.

More than 150 people attended the lecture; participants were mostly UGM academics and students. Additionally, there were also officials from the local government and staff of think tanks and other NGOs based in Yogyakarta, and few Australian university students who were undertaking studies at UGM.
