Special ISG with His Excellency Ambassador Dr Siswo Pramono - 7 November 2024

In this special ISG, His Excellency Dr SIswo Pramono, Ambassador of Indonesia to Australia, presented seminar about Indonesia’s quest to position itself as one of the key players in the global critical industry sector. He highlighted Indonesia’s contribution to energy transition in the Indo-Pacific, and priorities of the new Indonesian leader in critical industry and energy sectors. Discussion from Emeritus Professor Hal Hill touched on the broader economic relations and the regional context of the Australia – Indonesia relationship, while Dr Elly Kent will discussed people-to-people initiatives between the two countries, with a focus on youth, education, art and cultural sectors.

A conversation with Chatib Basri - 5 August 2024

The Arndt-Corden Department of Economics and ANU Indonesia Project was pleased to host the event with Chatib Basri, Chairman of PT Bank Mandiri and former Finance Minister of the Republic of Indonesia. Dr Chatib Basri delivered a special dialogue with ANU Indonesia Project community about the topic of Indonesian economic development and how the recent decline of middle class purchasing power has affected the overall economy and called for a review of social protection policies.

Webinar in honor of Professor Iwan Jaya Azis - 16 May 2024

The ANU Indonesia Project, in collaboration with the Indonesian Regional Science Association (IRSA), Faculty of Economics and Business, Universitas Indonesia (FEB UI), Lembaga Penyelidikan Ekonomi dan Masyarakat (LPEM) FEB UI, and Forum Kajian Pembangunan (FKP), was pleased to gather to celebrate the remarkable academic journey, profound influences, and invaluable contributions of Professor Iwan Jaya Azis.

Visit by Indonesia’s Minister of Finance, Her Excellency Dr Sri Mulyani Indrawati - 12 December 2023

Head of the ANU Indonesia Project, Professor Budy Resosudarmo welcomed Indonesia’s Minister of Finance, Her Excellency Dr Sri Mulyani Indrawati, to deliver a public lecture reflecting on her time as Minister of Finance. Speaking to our ANU Indonesia Project community on the ANU campus, Dr Mulyani spoke about Indonesia’s ambitious economic targets in the face of the global pandemic, energy transition and the global decline in multilateralism. Dr Mulyani’s visit also coincided with her award of doctor honoris causa, in recognition of exceptional contribution to economic development and reform at the highest levels, both within Indonesia and internationally.

Visit by Dr Muhamad Chatib Basri - 13 November 2023

Dr Muhamad Chatib Basri, President Commissioner, PT Bank Mandiri and former Finance Minister, Republic of Indonesia visited the ANU Indonesia Project to deliver a public lecture and policy briefing with our Project community of Stakeholders. Presenting on the political economy of “Indonesia 2045 vision”, Dr Basri stressed the importance of focusing on achievable and impactful policy reform, rather than getting lost in economics text books. Policy Discussion with Minister Abdullah Azwar Anas - 17 October 2023

The ANU Indonesia Project was pleased to host a roundtable discussion with Abdullah Azwar Anas, Minister of Administrative and Bureaucratic Reform. The Minister’s visit to the ANU provided an opportunity for the Minister to hear an academic view of the Australian Public Service reform to compliment his full agenda of meetings with departments of Australian Public Service and government ministers. Minister Anas met with Crawford School of Public Policy Director, Janine O’Flynn to discuss public sector digitisation, how digitisation can deliver benefits for citizens, and what are the risks and challenges in an Australian context?
