At the launch of Governing Urban Indonesia, book editor Ed Aspinall provided an insightful overview of the publication. Hosted by Budy Resosudarmo, Head of the Indonesia Project, was officially launched by Lauren Bain from DFAT, and published by ISEAS - Yusof Ishak Institute, to our Canberra community, the book explores the trend of urbanisation that has long been unfolding in Indonesia. As more people live in urban areas, new problems arise, such as waste management and traffic. On top of these physical challenges, urbanisation has brought profound changes to the social, economic and political landscape. The book examines these developments in historical context and from demographic, economic, environmental, political and social perspectives.

Stephanie Copus-Campbell AM, Australian Ambassador for Gender Equality, and supported by Mr. Mohammad Alatas, Deputy Head of Mission, Indonesian Embassy of Australia. The book launch was followed by morning tea.

Emeritus Professor Emil Salim from Universitas Indonesia launched the book online on 25 September 2020. The well attended launch was held over two days. The Indonesian launch of the Update book was held at the Center for Politics, Indonesian Institute of Sciences (LIPI) Jakarta on 31 July. The book was launched by Professor Dewi Fortuna Anwar, who also delivered the keynote remarks. Book editors Greg Fealy and Ronit Ricci, together with co-author Burhanuddin Muhtadi attended the launch and held a discussion about the book with Asvi Warman Adam and Firman Noor.

2019 Book Launch in Canberra
Emerita Professor Virginia Hooker launched the 2019 Indonesia Update book and the launch was attended by around 70 people. In her keynote speech, Professor Hooker stated that the book outlines the challenges to achieving and then safeguarding the rights of minorities. Most chapters describe the diverse strategies and methods that minorities have used to 'claim their place in the nation'.

Jakarta mini update and book launch May 22, 2010
Dr. Anies Baswedan launched the 2010 Indonesia Update book.
The book from the 26th Indonesia Update conference in 2009, Problems of Democratisation in Indonesia: Elections, Institutions, and Society edited by Edward Aspinall and Marcus Mietzner, was launched in Jakarta in conjunction with a Mini Update Conference in collaboration with CSIS on 19 May 2010. Dr. Anies Baswedan, the president of Paramadina University, launched the book and judged it to be one of the more important political books on Indonesian democracy.
Marcus Mietzner and Djisman Simadjuntak gave an update of Indonesian politics and economics. Adam Schmidt, Hana Satriyo and Stephen Sherlock discussed three chapters in the book. Approximately 80 people attended the launch and mini update. Among the audience were Dr. Juwono Sudarsono, Dr. Mely G Tan and Aristides Katoppo.
